Adding eBooks to Your Devices

Reading the EPUB on Your Device

Kindle (e-reader, Fire tablet, or Kindle app)

Amazon's Send to Kindle service accepts EPUB files directly. Three options:

  • Email it: Send the EPUB as an attachment to your personal @kindle.com address (find or set yours at amazon.com/sendtokindle under "Personal Document Settings"). The book will appear on your Kindle within a few minutes.
  • Web upload: Go to amazon.com/sendtokindle, sign in, and drag the EPUB into the page.
  • Send to Kindle app: Available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. Open the app and select the file.

Make sure the sending email address is on your "Approved Personal Document Email List" in Amazon's settings.

iPad or iPhone

The built-in Apple Books app handles EPUB natively.

  • Tap the download link in Safari, then choose Open in Books, or
  • Save the file to the Files app, long-press it, and select Share → Books.

Nook

  • On a Nook tablet or app: Save the file to the device, then open it from the Nook Library's "My Files" section.
  • On older Nook e-readers: Connect to a computer via USB, drag the EPUB into the "My Documents" or "Books" folder, then eject.

Kobo

  • USB transfer: Plug the Kobo into a computer, drag the EPUB onto the device, eject, and the book will appear in the library.
  • Kobo apps (iOS/Android): Open the file from your device's file manager and select "Open in Kobo Books," or upload via the Kobo Cloud through your account at kobo.com.

Android phones and tablets

Google Play Books, Moon+ Reader, and Lithium all open EPUB files. Download the EPUB, then open it from the Files or Downloads app and choose your preferred reader.

Desktop reading

  • macOS: Apple Books (double-click the file).
  • Windows / Linux / Mac: Calibre (free, calibre-ebook.com) is the most flexible option and can also convert or sideload to most e-readers.

Troubleshooting

  • File won't open: Confirm the download completed and the file ends in .epub.
  • Kindle email rejected: The sending address must be added to your approved list in Amazon's settings.
  • Formatting looks off: Try a different reader app — rendering varies between them.
